Saat ini kita kita mengenal Busway, Metromini, Patas AC, Taksi, Angkutan Kota (angkot), dan berbagai macam alat transportasi umum yang sering berkeliaran di jalanan ibukota. Namun, apakah kita mengenal alat transportasi di Jakarta pada masa lalu? Berikut saya akan bahas sedikit mengenai berbagai macam alat transpotasi di Jakarta tempo dulu.
A.Helicak

Adalah alat transportasi yang berasal dari skuter Lambretta asal Italia. Nama helicak sendiri berasal dari gabungan kata Helikopter dan Becak. Helicak beroperasi pada masa kepemipinan Gubernur (Alm.) Ali Sadikin untuk menggantikan becak yang dianggap tidak manusiawi. Bemo pertama kali muncul di Jakarta pada tahun 1962. Bemo sempat menjadi alat transportasi favorit masyarakat pada era 60-an, 70-an, sampai awal 80-an sebelum banyakknya keberadaan angkot.

D. Oplet

Merupakan kendaraan yang identik dengan salah satu judul film besutan H. Rano Karno "Si Doel Anak Sekolahan". Jika dibandingkan dengan bemo, oplet jauh lebih nyaman ketimbang bemo. E. Bis Tingkat

Kendaraan yang satu ini memiliki pengagum tersendiri. Sensasi ketika naik dilantai atas tidak dapat dirasakan ketika menaiki bis pada umumnya. Bis tingkat sendiri memiliki dua keuntungan yaitu efisiensi tempat dan alat transportasi yang cocok digunakan untuk pariwisata. Namun, keberadaan bis tingkat dihapuskan karena beberapa faktor, antara lain sulit dan mahalnya suku cadang, kurangnya keseimbangan, lambat jalannya, dan tidak cocok untuk kondisi jalan Jakarta saat ini. Adalah sarana transportasi di Jakarta pada masa Hindia Belanda saat Jakarta masih bernama Batavia. Trem pertama kali digerakan menggunakan tenaga kuda. Masa kejayaan trem listrik berakhir pada 1960 karena presiden Indonesia pada saat itu yaitu Ir. Sukarno mengaggap bahwa trem kurang cocok untuk berada di wilayah Jakarta. Beliau lebih menginginkan adanya Metro atau kereta bawah tanah.

Cikar adalah alat transportasi darat tradisional dari Indonesia. Cikar banyak dijumpai di daerah-daerah seperti Pulau Sumatera, Pulau Jawa dan Lombok.

Cikar yang ada saat ini sudah tidak lagi seperti cikar tempo dulu, terutama pada bagian roda. Pada zaman dulu roda Cikar terbuat dari kayu jati tua yang dilapisi oleh besi dengan diameter yang besar, yaitu 160 cm; saat ini roda-roda tersebut digantikan oleh roda-roda yang terbuat dari karet. Kerangka cikar yang ada sekarang juga terbuat dari berbagai macam kayu seperti kayu bengkirai atau kayu-kayu lain yang mempunyai ketahanan dan keawetan sedangkan kerangka cikar-cikar tempo dulu terbuat dari kayu jati pilihan yang sangat kuat, terutama dari kayu jati jenis kembang dan doreng yang banyak dijumpai di daerah Jawa Tengah dan Jawa Timur.

Berbeda dengan delman atau dokar, cikar pada umumnya ditarik oleh dua ekor sapi dan dipergunakan untuk angkutan yang memuat barang, berupa hasil bumi atau orang. Walau saat ini sudah sulit untuk ditemui, namun bagi beberapa orang, terutama di pedesaan, cikar masih digunakan sebagai alat transportasi untuk mengangkut hasil bumi, terutama di daerah-daerah yang sulit dilalui oleh kendaraan/ truk, karena kondisi alam yang terjal dan bebatuan. Sapi-sapi ini mampu menarik beban yang sangat berat. Sapi-sapi tersebut pada musim penghujan dimanfaatkan untuk menarik bajak di sawah, sedangkan pada musim kemarau di saat para petani tidak membajak sawah, maka sapi-sapi ini dimanfaatkan untuk menarik cikar sebagai mata pencarian sampingan para petani.
